Ever wanted to join a book club, start your own club, or give your existing club a revamp?
Book clubs come in all shapes and sizes. There are virtual clubs, mystery clubs, breakfast clubs, reading-between-the-wines clubs, choose-your-own-novel clubs, we-only-read-Jane-Austen clubs. Some clubs discuss the big issues of love, art and life, while others skip straight to the wine and cheese. In the end, though, book clubs are all about community. It’s about people getting together to agree, disagree, laugh, exchange ideas, escape the everyday and share a love of reading. And every book club needs books…
Kiama Library is pleased to announce that in 2018, we are launching a brand new book club membership service to support the many book clubs in our area. Local book clubs can apply for a book club membership card and use this to borrow a set of books for the club for six weeks at a time. Each kit has 9–10 copies of a particular book, a large print edition where available, and a set of discussion questions. There are more than 35 different book kits in the collection to choose from — by both popular and prize-winning authors including, Jane Harper, Liane Moriarty, George Saunders, Kate Atkinson and Anthony Doerr — and more will be added in the future.
Membership is great value and can be arranged in one of two ways:
- Casual membership is a fantastic option for those wanting to trial a full book club membership, or if your book club likes more flexibility with their choice of books, and allows your book club to borrow up to three kits per year for a cost of $60 (just $6 per member, based on ten members).
- A full annual membership allows your club to borrow up to 12 kits per year, for a cost of $200 (around $20 per member).
So there has never been a better time to start a book club or give your old club some new life!
